Torah: Leviticus 16 Numbers 29:7-11

Lev 16:1-34  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh after the death of the two sons of Aharon, as they drew near before יהוה, and died.

2  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Speak to Aharon your brother not to come in at all times to the Set-apart Place inside the veil, before the lid of atonement which is on the ark, lest he die, because I appear in the cloud above the lid of atonement.

3  “With this Aharon should come into the Set-apart Place: with the blood of a young bull as a sin offering, and of a ram as a burnt offering.

4  “He should put on the set-apart linen long shirt, with linen trousers on his flesh, and gird himself with a linen girdle, and be dressed with the linen turban – they are set-apart garments. And he shall bathe his body in water, and shall put them on.

5  “And from the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl he takes two male goats as a sin offering, and one ram as a burnt offering.

6  “And Aharon shall bring the bull as a sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house.

7  “And he shall take the two goats and let them stand before יהוה at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

8  “And Aharon shall cast lots for the two goats, one lot for יהוה and the other lot for Azazel.

9  “And Aharon shall bring the goat on which the lot for יהוה fell, and shall prepare it as a sin offering.

10  “But the goat on which the lot for Azazel fell is caused to stand alive before יהוה, to make atonement upon it, to send it into the wilderness to Azazel.

11  “And Aharon shall bring the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall slaughter the bull as the sin offering which is for himself,

12  and shall take a fire holder filled with burning coals of fire from the altar before יהוה, with his hands filled with sweet incense beaten fine, and shall bring it inside the veil.

13  “And he shall put the incense on the fire before יהוה, and the cloud of incense shall cover the lid of atonement which is on the Witness, lest he die.

14  “And he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the lid of atonement on the east side, also in front of the lid of atonement he sprinkles some of the blood with his finger seven times.

15  “And he shall slaughter the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, and shall bring its blood inside the veil, and shall do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the lid of atonement and in front of the lid of atonement.

16  “And he shall make atonement for the Set-apart Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and because of their transgressions in all their sins. And so he does for the Tent of Meeting which is dwelling with them in the midst of their uncleanness.

17  “And no man should be in the Tent of Meeting when he goes in to make atonement in the Set-apart Place, until he comes out. And he shall make atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the assembly of Yisra’ĕl.

18  “And he shall go out to the altar that is before יהוה, and make atonement for it. And he shall take some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar all around.

19  “And he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and set it apart from the uncleanness of the children of Yisra’ĕl.

20  “And when he has finished atoning for the Set-apart Place, and the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat.

21  “Then Aharon shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and shall confess over it all the crookednesses of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and all their transgressions in all their sins, and shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a fit man.

22  “And the goat shall bear on itself all their crookednesses, to a land cut off. Thus he shall send the goat away into the wilderness.

23  “Aharon shall then come into the Tent of Meeting, and shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Set-apart Place, and shall leave them there.

24  “And he shall bathe his body in water in the set-apart place, and shall put on his garments, and shall come out and prepare his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people,

25  and burn the fat of the sin offering on the altar.

26  “And he who sent away the goat to Azazel washes his garments, and shall bathe his body in water, and afterward he comes into the camp.

27  “And the bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Set-apart Place, is brought outside the camp. And they shall burn their skins, and their flesh, and their dung with fire.

28  “And he who burns them washes his garments, and shall bathe his body in water, and afterward he comes into the camp.

29  “And this shall be for you a law forever: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you afflict your beings, and do no work, the native or the stranger who sojourns among you.

30  “For on that day he makes atonement for you, to cleanse you, to be clean from all your sins before יהוה.

31  “It is a Sabbath of rest for you, and you shall afflict your beings – a law forever.

32  “And the priest, who is anointed and ordained to serve as priest in his father’s place, shall make atonement, and shall put on the linen garments, the set-apart garments,

33  and he shall make atonement for the Most Set-apart Place, and make atonement for the Tent of Meeting and for the altar, and make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.

34  “And this shall be for you a law forever, to make atonement for the children of Yisra’ĕl, for all their sins, once a year.” And he did as יהוה commanded Mosheh.

Numbers 29:7-11

Num 29:7-11  ‘And on the tenth day of this seventh month you have a set-apart gathering, and you shall afflict your beings, you do no work.

8  ‘And you shall bring near a burnt offering to יהוה, a sweet fragrance: one young bull, one ram, seven lambs a year old, perfect ones they are for you,

9  and their grain offering: fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ĕphah for the bull, two-tenths for the one ram,

10  one-tenth for each of the seven lambs,

11  one male goat as a sin offering, besides the sin offering for atonement, the continual burnt offering with its grain offering, and their drink offerings.

Haftorah: Isaiah 57:14-58:14

Isa 57:14-21  And one shall say, “Heap it up! Heap it up! Prepare the way, take the stumbling-block out of the way of My people.”

15  For thus declares the high and exalted One who dwells forever, whose Name is set-apart, “I dwell in the high and set-apart place, with him who has a bruised and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of bruised ones.

16  “For I would not strive forever, nor am I wroth forever, for the spirit would grow faint before Me, even the beings I have made.

17  “For the crookedness of his unfair gain I was wroth and I smote him. I hid Myself and was wroth, and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

18  “I have seen his ways, but now I heal him, and I lead him, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners,

19  creating the fruit of the lips: peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” said יהוה, “and I shall heal him.”

20  But the wrong are like the troubled sea, for it is unable to rest, and its waters cast up mud and dirt.

21  “There is no peace,” said my Elohim, “for the wrong.”

Isa 58:1-14  “Cry aloud, do not spare. Lift up your voice like a ram’s horn. Declare to My people their transgression, and the house of Yaʽaqoḇ their sins.

2  “Yet they seek Me day by day, and delight to know My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and did not forsake the right-ruling of their Elohim. They ask of Me rulings of righteousness, they delight in drawing near to Elohim.

3  They say, ‘Why have we fasted, and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our beings, and You took no note?’ “Look, in the day of your fasting you find pleasure, and drive on all your labourers.

4  “Look, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wrongness. You do not fast as you do this day, to make your voice heard on high.

5  “Is it a fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his being? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Do you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to יהוה?

6  “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loosen the tight cords of wrongness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to exempt the oppressed, and to break off every yoke?

7  “Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; when you see the naked, and cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh?

8  “Then your light would break forth like the morning, your healing spring forth speedily. And your righteousness shall go before you, the esteem of יהוה would be your rear guard.

9  “Then, when you call, יהוה would answer; when you cry, He would say, ‘Here I am.’ “If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and the speaking of unrighteousness,

10  if you extend your being to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted being, then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness be as noon.

11  “Then יהוה would guide you continually, and satisfy your being in drought, and strengthen your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

12  “And those from among you shall build the old waste places. You shall raise up the foundations of many generations. And you would be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.

13  “If you do turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and shall call the Sabbath ‘a delight,’ the set-apart day of יהוה ‘esteemed,’ and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words,

14  then you shall delight yourself in יהוה. And I shall cause you to ride on the heights of the earth, and feed you with the inheritance of Yaʽaqoḇ your father. For the mouth of יהוה has spoken!”

Torah: Leviticus 18

Book of Jonah

Lev 18:1-30  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘I am יהוה your Elohim.

3  ‘Do not do as they do in the land of Mitsrayim, where you dwelt. And do not do as they do in the land of Kenaʽan, where I am bringing you, and do not walk in their laws.

4  ‘Do My right-rulings and guard My laws, to walk in them. I am יהוה your Elohim.

5  ‘And you shall guard My laws and My right-rulings, which a man does and lives by them. I am יהוה.

6  ‘No one is to approach anyone of his own flesh to uncover his nakedness. I am יהוה.

7  ‘The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you do not uncover. She is your mother, you do not uncover her nakedness.

8  ‘The nakedness of your father’s wife you do not uncover, it is your father’s nakedness.

9  ‘The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or elsewhere, their nakedness you do not uncover.

10  ‘The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you do not uncover, for theirs is your own nakedness.

11  ‘The nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, brought forth by your father, she is your sister, you do not uncover her nakedness.

12  ‘The nakedness of your father’s sister you do not uncover, she is your father’s flesh.

13  ‘The nakedness of your mother’s sister you do not uncover, for she is your mother’s flesh.

14  ‘The nakedness of your father’s brother you do not uncover, you do not approach his wife, she is your aunt.

15  ‘The nakedness of your daughter-in-law you do not uncover, she is your son’s wife, you do not uncover her nakedness.

16  ‘The nakedness of your brother’s wife you do not uncover, it is your brother’s nakedness.

17  ‘The nakedness of a woman and her daughter you do not uncover, nor do you take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness. They are her relatives – it is wickedness.

18  ‘And do not take a woman as a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness while the other is alive.

19  ‘And do not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness in her monthly separation of uncleanness.

20  ‘And do not have intercourse with the wife of your neighbour, to defile yourself with her.

21  ‘And do not give any of your offspring to pass through to Moleḵ. And do not profane the Name of your Elohim. I am יהוה.

22  ‘And do not lie with a male as with a woman, it is an abomination.

23  ‘And do not have intercourse with any beast, to defile yourself with it. And a woman does not stand before a beast to mate with it, it is a perversion.

24  ‘Do not defile yourselves with all these, for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am driving out before you.

25  ‘Thus the land became defiled, therefore I punished it for its crookedness, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.

26  ‘But you, you shall guard My laws and My right-rulings, and not do any of these abominations, the native nor stranger who sojourns among you,

27  because the men of the land who were before you have done all these abominations, and thus the land became defiled,

28  ‘So let not the land vomit you out for defiling it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you.

29  ‘For whoever does any of these abominations, those beings who do them shall be cut off from among their people.

30  ‘And you shall guard My Charge, so as not to do any of these abominable practices which were done before you, so as not to defile yourselves by them. I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ”

Book of Jonah

Jon 1:1-17  And the word of יהוה came to Yonah son of Amittai, saying,

2  “Arise, go to Ninewĕh, the great city, and cry out against it, for their evils have come up before Me.”

3  But Yonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of יהוה, and went down to Yapho, and found a ship going to Tarshish. And he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of יהוה.

4  And יהוה sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a great storm on the sea, so that the ship was thought to be broken up.

5  And the seamen were afraid, and each one cried out to his mighty one, and threw the cargo which was in the ship into the sea, to lighten the load. But Yonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, and he lay down, and was fast asleep.

6  And the captain came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, cry out to your Elohim, if so be that Elohim shall think about us, so that we do not perish.”

7  And they said to each other, “Come, and let us cast lots, so that we know for whose sake this evil has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Yonah.

8  So they said to him, “Please explain to us! For whose sake is this evil upon us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And from what people are you?”

9  And he said to them, “I am a Heḇrew. And I am fearing יהוה, the Elohim of the heavens, who made the sea and the dry land.”

10  And the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “Why have you done this?” For the men knew that he fled from the presence of יהוה, for he had informed them.

11  And they said to him, “What are we to do to you to make the sea calm for us?” For the sea was growing more stormy.

12  And he said to them, “Take me and throw me into the sea, so that the sea becomes calm for you. For I know that this great storm is because of me.”

13  However, the men rowed hard to bring the ship to land, but were unable, for the sea continued to grow more stormy against them.

14  And they cried out to יהוה and said, “We pray, O יהוה, please, let us not perish for this man’s life, and do not lay on us innocent blood. For You, O יהוה, have done as it pleased You.”

15  Then they took Yonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped raging.

16  And the men feared יהוה exceedingly, and brought an offering to יהוה and made vows.

17  But יהוה appointed a great fish to swallow Yonah. And Yonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights.

Jon 2:1-10  And Yonah prayed to יהוה his Elohim from the stomach of the fish.

2  And he said, “I called to יהוה because of my distress, and He answered me. From the stomach of the grave I cried, and You heard my voice.

3  “For You threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods surrounded me. All Your breakers and Your waves passed over me.

4  “So I said, ‘I have been driven away from Your eyes. Would I ever look again toward Your set-apart Hĕḵal?’

5  “Waters encompassed me, unto life, the deep closed around me, weeds were wrapped around my head.

6  “I went down to the base of the mountains, the earth with its bars were behind me forever. But You brought up my life from the pit, O יהוה, my Elohim.

7  “When my life fainted within me, I remembered יהוה. And my prayer went up to You, into Your set-apart Hĕḵal.

8  “Those observing false worthlessnesses forsake their own kindness.

9  “But I offer to You with the voice of thanksgiving, I pay what I have vowed. Deliverance is of יהוה.”

10  Then יהוה spoke to the fish, and it vomited Yonah on the dry land.

Jon 3:1-10  And the word of יהוה came to Yonah the second time, saying,

2  “Arise, go to Ninewĕh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I am speaking to you.”

3  And Yonah arose and went to Ninewĕh, according to the word of יהוה. Now Ninewĕh was a great city before Elohim, of three day’s journey.

4  And Yonah began to go in to the city on the first day’s walk. And he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Ninewĕh shall be overthrown!”

5  And the men of Ninewĕh believed in Elohim, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.

6  And the word reached the sovereign of Ninewĕh, so he arose from his throne and took off his robe, and covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes.

7  And he proclaimed and said throughout Ninewĕh, “By decree of the sovereign and his nobles: No man or beast, herd or flock, shall taste whatever – let them not eat, let them not even drink water.

8  “But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and call mightily to Elohim. And let each one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

9  “Who knows whether Elohim does turn and relent, and shall turn away from the heat of His displeasure, so that we do not perish?”

10  And Elohim saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And Elohim relented from the evil which He had said He would do to them, and He did not do it.

Jon 4:1-11  But it greatly displeased Yonah, and he was grieved.

2  And he prayed to יהוה, and he said, “Please, יהוה, was this not what I said while I was in my own land? This is why I went ahead and fled to Tarshish. For I know that You are an Ěl showing favour, and compassionate, patient and of great kindness, and relenting from doing evil.

3  “And now, O יהוה, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!”

4  And יהוה said, “Are you right to be displeased?”

5  Then Yonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city, and made himself a shelter there, and sat under it in the shade, to see what would become of the city.

6  And יהוה Elohim appointed a plant and made it come up over Yonah, to be a shade for his head to deliver him from his discomfort. And Yonah greatly rejoiced over the plant.

7  But as morning dawned the next day Elohim appointed a worm which attacked the plant so that it withered.

8  And it came to be when the sun came up, that Elohim appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun smote on Yonah’s head, so that he grew faint, and asked for his life to die, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

9  And Elohim said to Yonah, “Have you rightly become displeased over the plant?” And he said, “I have rightly become displeased, even to death!”

10  And יהוה said, “You felt sorry for the plant for which you have not laboured, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night.

11  “And should I not pardon Ninewĕh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand beings who have not known their right hand from their left, and much cattle?”

Suggested HaBerith HaChadasah Reading:

Rom 3:21-26;
2 Cor 5:10-21

Rom 3:21-26  But now, apart from the Torah, a righteousness of Elohim has been revealed, being witnessed by the Torah and the Prophets,

22  and the righteousness of Elohim is through belief in יהושע Messiah to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference,

23  for all have sinned and fall short of the esteem of Elohim,

24  being declared right, without paying, by His favour through the redemption which is in Messiah יהושע,

25  whom Elohim set forth as an atonement, through belief in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His tolerance Elohim had passed over the sins that had taken place before,

26  to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He is righteous and declares righteous the one who has belief in יהושע.

2Co 5:10-21  For we all have to appear before the judgment seat of Messiah, in order for each one to receive according to what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.1 Footnote: 1See Mt. 16:27, John 5:29.

11  Knowing, therefore, the fear of יהוה, we persuade men, but we have been made manifest to Elohim, and I also trust in your consciences to have been manifested.

12  For we do not again commend ourselves to you, but give you an occasion to boast on our behalf, in order that you have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.

13  For whether we are beside ourselves, it was for Elohim, or whether we are of sound mind, it is for you.

14  For the love of Messiah compels us, having judged this: that if One died for all, then all died;

15  and He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves,1 but for Him who died for them, and was raised. Footnote: 1Rom 14:7-8, Gal. 2:20.

16  So from now onwards we know no one according to the flesh. And if we have known Messiah according to the flesh, yet now we no longer know Him thus.

17  Therefore, if anyone is in Messiah, he is a renewed creature – the old matters have passed away, see, all matters have become renewed!1 Footnote: 1Rom. 6:2-22, Gal. 2:20, Eph. 4:22-24, Col. 3:10, 1 John 3:9-10.

18  And all matters are from Elohim, who has restored us to favour with Himself through יהושע Messiah, and has given us the service of restoration to favour,

19  that is, that Elohim was in Messiah restoring the world to favour unto Himself, not reckoning their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of restoration to favour.

20  Therefore we are envoys on behalf of Messiah, as though Elohim were pleading through us. We beg, on behalf of Messiah: Be restored to favour with Elohim.

21  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of Elohim.
